Description
Some of the best Red Blends find their origins in the Stellenbosch region. Being cooler, the region gives the wine body and fruit intensity. This classic Rhône style red blend exhibits pure aromas of red fruit with good depth of flavours infused by the new oak. It is full structured, well balanced and firm on the finish.

Vinification
The origin of these grapes stems from the Syrah bush vine on the estate (62%), whilst the Mourvèdre (20%) and Carignan (18%) were selected from bush vines in the Wellington region. After hand harvesting at 25.5° balling, partial destemming took place (keeping 50% whole berries). Cold soaking for 7 days until the natural yeast started to ferment the sugars followed. Next was inoculation with carefully selected strains of Saccharomyces yeast. After fermentation on the skin (with 4 punch-downs per day), a further week on the skin lapsed to stabilise the tannins before being pressed directly into barrels (30% new and the rest 2nd- and 3rd-fill French oak). After malolactic fermentation and ageing for 18 months; blending, coarse filtration and bottling was done.
